Professor KatsmanThe general cargo ship Professor Katsman grounded on a mud bottom in Volga river after left the fairway due to navigation mistake of the duty officer. The vessel was making a voyage with 2,427 tons of general cargo on board from from St Petersburg to Baku, Azerbaijan. The ship hardly stuck and was unable to refloat by own power. After preliminary inspection the hull is strong without breaches and damages. The local authorities sent a tug to assist with salvage operations of the cargo ship Professor Katsman. The traffic near 2631-km mark on Volga river was not disturbed by the accident. There were no injured crew members during grounding and no water pollution.

The river-type general cargo ship Professor Katsman (IMO: 9368261) was built in 2008 by Oka Shipyard in Navashino, Russia. The vessel has overall length of 128.00 m, moulded beam of 16.00 m and maximum draft of 3.60 m. The deadweight of the cargo ship is 5,465 DWT and the gross tonnage is 4,970 GRT. The general cargo vessel Professor Katsman is owned and operated by Russian company North Western Shipping.
